I’m a true skeptic. I need to see to believe. Hard Evidence. Compelling Proof. Solid Logic. This is what I believe in.
In college, I encountered questions that the superficial faith I was raised on couldn’t handle. So, I began a quest for Truth, a quest for the answers to life’s ultimate questions.
Why are we here? Is there a God? What happens when we die?
I determined that I would stake my life on wherever the evidence led: to atheism, some great philosophy, or another world religion. But, to my great surprise, the evidence led me to Christianity - to Jesus.
I didn’t want it to be this way. There were several other religions I was studying at the time that I preferred to be true. But, in the end, the evidence was undeniable - especially the evidence for Jesus’ resurrection: it would have been harder not to believe than to believe. And as I’ve continued to pursue every question, to examine every doubt, the evidence for the Christian faith has only become more and more compelling.
When it comes to the God of Jesus Christ, I’ve seen the evidence, and it’s overwhelming. That’s why I believe.
As a result, I’m now an ordained Lutheran pastor. I received my B.A. from Trinity College and M.Div. from Yale University, summa cum laude. I taught theology and scripture in two different high schools (the crucible for fielding questions of faith!) and have served as a pastor in two different churches. Presently, I live in Connecticut with my wife Cherie, where I am a volunteer firefighter. My mission is to show people—believers and skeptics alike—just how trustworthy the evidence for the God of Jesus Christ truly is. With all my heart, I’m convinced you can see and believe too!
Why should you trust me?
In this era of alternative facts, there’s a dizzying array of people out there all claiming to have “the Truth.” It’s hard to know who to trust. I totally get that.
When I first began my quest for Truth, I didn’t know who to trust either. Having no idea where to begin, I pored over every piece of evidence and every argument on every side of every question and everything in between! It was a long and arduous process.
But eventually, I was able to find the best, most balanced scholarship.
I was able to find trustworthy answers, answers that are as close to being unbiased as possible. In fact, my only bias is for the Truth. I don’t want to be duped, to be a sucker who believes in some kind of fairy tale or myth. I am very open to being challenged and am happy to change my position where the evidence warrants it.
I have great sympathy for the skeptic because, at heart, I am one.
That’s why Raising Jesus won’t be afraid to ask any question or pursue any doubt.
As a fellow skeptic, I am committed to providing you with whatever information you need to help you see the evidence for yourself.
